Veterans Benefits
 
Are you a veteran, a widowed spouse of a veteran, or a
veteran's child who is eligible for Social Security
disability benefits? You may be entitled to the Veteran's
Pension with Aid and Assistance Allowance.
 
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers pension
benefits to wartime veterans who meet income requirements
and other pre-qualifications. According to the VA,
"A veteran who is determined by VA to be in need of the
regular aid and attendance of another person, or a veteran
who is permanently housebound, may be entitled to
additional disability compensation or pension benefits."
 
Access to service is provided on the basis of need and in
accordance with established VA criteria. If eligible, this
benefit provides veterans and their spouses' financial
assistance for in-home services.
 
Eligibility Requirements:
 
The veteran must have served 90 days or more of active
duty with at least 1 day during a war time:
 

1. World War I - April 16, 1917-November 11, 1918
2. World War II - December 7, 1941-December 31, 1946
3. Korean conflict - June 27, 1950-January 31, 1955
4. Vietnam Era - August 5, 1964-May 7, 1975
5. Persian Gulf - Operation Desert Shield/Storm, August 2, 1990 - June 07, 1991.

The veteran must have been discharged from service under
other than dishonorable conditions; and
 
The veteran must have disabilities that keep him/her from working a
regular, full-time job or must be 65 years old; and
 
Family income and assets must be below a certain yearly limit set by law; and
 
Needing assistance of another based on medical
diagnosis.
 
Once approved, monthly pension benefits are paid to the
veteran, veteran with spouse, or qualified surviving
spouse to help pay for in-home services.

Any State Veterans Service Officer can assist in filing
claims for this federal VA benefit.
